Comprehensive Orthopedic Care Guided by the Right Diagnosis

Dr. Joseph Blythe provides surgical and nonsurgical orthopedic care for conditions affecting the neck, back, sacroiliac joint, shoulder, and knee. His practice includes true minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery, sacroiliac joint fusion, shoulder arthroscopy and rotator cuff repair, total knee replacement, orthopedic injections, and platelet-rich plasma treatment for selected conditions. He also evaluates and treats injuries caused by workplace accidents and motor vehicle collisions, including appropriate workers' compensation and personal injury cases.

Every treatment begins with an accurate diagnosis. Injections are used when they serve a clear purpose. Surgery is recommended only when there is a correctable structural problem and a meaningful opportunity to improve pain, function, or quality of life.

Treatment is selected for the patient and the pathology. It is never chosen simply because a procedure carries a popular marketing label.

How We Approach Your Care

Not every orthopedic problem requires surgery. The right course depends on the diagnosis, the severity of symptoms, and what conservative treatments have already been tried.

Dr. Blythe begins with a thorough evaluation: reviewing imaging, understanding your history, and identifying the specific source of the problem. You will receive an honest explanation of your options, the tradeoffs of each, and a clear recommendation.

When surgery is appropriate, Dr. Blythe performs endoscopic and minimally invasive spine procedures, shoulder arthroscopy, and total knee replacement. When surgery is not recommended, he provides nonsurgical care including orthopedic injections, platelet-rich plasma injections, stem cell injections, and other injections (peptides) for selected conditions.

"The least disruptive operation that safely and completely addresses the problem is selected for each patient."

For Referring Physicians

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions before your first visit.

No referral is required to schedule a consultation. You are welcome to call the office directly or submit an appointment request online. If your insurance requires a referral, please obtain one from your primary care physician before your visit.

Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a list of current medications, and any imaging you have had (MRI, CT, or X-ray). If your imaging is on a disc or accessible through a patient portal, please bring that as well. Arriving 15 minutes early allows time to complete intake paperwork.

Not necessarily. The first visit is a consultation. Dr. Blythe will review your history, examine you, and evaluate your imaging. Many patients are treated without surgery. If surgery is the right option, it will be explained clearly along with the alternatives, so you can make an informed decision.

The practice accepts most major commercial insurance plans, Medicare, workers' compensation, and motor vehicle accident cases. Please call the office at 405-418-4500 to confirm your specific plan before your appointment.

Routine consultations are typically scheduled within a reasonable timeframe. Urgent cases are prioritized. If you are in significant pain or have neurological symptoms such as weakness or numbness, please mention that when you call so the team can accommodate you appropriately.

Minimally invasive spine surgery uses small incisions and specialized instruments to address the same problems as traditional open surgery, but with less disruption to surrounding muscle and tissue. This typically means less blood loss, a shorter hospital stay, and a faster return to normal activity. Dr. Blythe performs endoscopic and minimally invasive procedures for a wide range of spine conditions.

Revision spine surgery is a significant part of Dr. Blythe's practice. He regularly evaluates patients who have had prior procedures elsewhere and are still experiencing pain. A thorough review of your history and imaging will determine whether a correctable problem exists and what options are available.

You can bring imaging on a disc to your appointment, or the office can assist with a records request. If your imaging is available through a patient portal, downloading it to a disc or USB drive in advance is the most reliable option. Call the office at 405-418-4500 if you need assistance.
